The Controller--Karl Rove's plan to take over politics
By Nicholas Lemann

I read it last night and wasn't terribly impressed, though I have that problem with Lemann's writing. Rove is no end of interesting but Lemann, I thought, not only didn't make him more interesting. If anything, less interesting. I would love to have seen more about the thinking that went into the 2002 Senate races. Surely that could have been shared with Lemann and his readers.

The young Republican stuff is, at least in outline form, in other books. He's not going to talk seriously about their strategy with the judges stuff; so I'm not impressed with that little point.

Someone needs to do a serious comparison, in book form, one of these days of the more interesting of these consultants--Rove, Carville, et al.
