The Dems who vote in the primary are likely to pick a far left candidate. This is almost always the case when we have a Republican incumbent President. The only exception was Bill Clinton.

Hmm, then there was Jimmy Carter, Dukakis who was not a "far left" candidate in the primaries by a long shot. Actually, the more I think about it the only serious name on the list that says Dems always nominate the "far left" candidate is McGovern. We could argue all night about Walter Mondale in 84 but he was certainly not "far left." So you've got one time. Not a great deal.
