KLA-Tencor CFO says orders remain flat

Wednesday May 7, 8:32 pm ET

SAN FRANCISCO, May 7 (Reuters) - KLA-Tencor Corp, (NasdaqNM:KLAC - News), a maker of tools used in microchip production, is seeing orders about even with last quarter, which should result in flat revenue, the company's chief financial officer said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the J.P.Morgan Technology and Telecom Conference in San Francisco, KLA-Tencor CFO John Kispert reiterated the company outlook of revenue between $300 million and $310 million and earnings per share of 14 cents for the current fiscal fourth quarter.

"We remain cautious," he said, declining to speculate on when sales might pick up.

Revenue for KLA-Tencor was $304 million and earnings were 14 cents in the fiscal third quarter ended March 31. Year-ago fourth quarter revenue was $373 million.

While many chip companies are providing conservative or negative guidance, industry leader Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - News) has offered a relatively upbeat outlook.

The chip industry is in an extended downturn, its worst ever, and investors are anxious for any indication of a rebound.
