`Littleton Initiative' Brings Xybernaut Wearable Computers to School Emergency Management

Tuesday May 13, 8:50 am ET

FAIRFAX, Va. and LITTLETON, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 2003--Xybernaut Corporation (NASDAQ: XYBR - News):

Standards of School Safety (SOS) Announced as Littleton (Colorado)

Public School District Conducts Full-Scale School Emergency

Demonstration

Xybernaut Corporation (NASDAQ: XYBR - News) today announced its involvement in a joint effort to develop minimum Standards of School Safety (SOS).

Under a plan known as the SOS LITTLETON INITIATIVE, this effort is being spear headed by the Littleton (Colorado) Public School District, Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO), Xybernaut Corporation, various law enforcement communities and other technology partners.

The LITTLETON INITIATIVE has been developing over the past 3 months to concentrate on identifying best-practices and technology solutions that assist first-responders during school emergencies.

"School-based emergencies present an array of significant issues, particularly in our day and age. All educational entities are well advised to adopt response procedures and technology designed for immediate, effective implementation," stated Guy Grace, manager of safety, security and emergency planning, for the Littleton Public School District. "An effective response in dealing with today's types of school emergencies starts with using the appropriate action learned from one's training and in many cases using necessary technology to facilitate that appropriate response," added Grace.

With support from The Honorable Tom Tancredo, the LITTLETON INITIATIVE is gaining considerable attention and support in Congress and at the local level. Xybernaut Corporation, who is a leader in mobile/wearable computing technologies, has been involved with the LITTLETON INITIATIVE since its inception and its Mobile Assistant® V (MA® V) wearable computers are currently being used as the primary mobile computing platform for Littleton school security professionals and emergency first responders.

LITTLETON INITIATIVE representatives will jointly host a full-scale school emergency management demonstration on Wednesday, May 21 at the Littleton Elementary School in Littleton, CO -- located approximately 10 miles south of downtown Denver.

STATISTICS RELATED TO SCHOOL EMERGENCIES: the following statistics highlight recent developments related to school security and emergencies:

Over the 5-year period from 1996 through 2000, teachers were victims of approximately 1,603,000 nonfatal crimes at school, including 1,004,000 thefts and 599,000 violent crimes (rape or sexual assault, robbery, and aggravated and simple assault). On average, this translates into 74 crimes per 1,000 teachers per year.
Between 1992 and 2000, there was a 46 percent decrease in the violent crime victimization rate at school. Despite this decline, students ages 12 through 18 were victims of about 700,000 violent crimes and 1.2 million crimes of theft at school in the year 2000. Violence, theft, bullying, drugs, and firearms remain problems in many schools throughout the country.

A great way to save $600K for XYBR
by: russfeirstein
Long-Term Sentiment: Sell 05/15/03 10:54 am
Msg: 355448 of 355458

Will reduce negative cash flow and boost the bottomline and lower net loss.... Maybe even start on a positive cash flow:

Fire the Newmans, (300K each), bring back Moynihan, and have him work for a piece of net sales.... In fact, have ALL executives work for a piece of net sales.... That would certainly be a true motivator. Would any exec sign up for that? Good ones that are already well healed and don't need to drain their company dry to fund their retirement, that actually think the product and IP has promise. Find someone who fits that bill, and the company will have real leadership. If not, get a couple of monkeys that will work for a pile of bananas as XYBR is quickly approaching that kind of long term value without managerial and marketing insight, innovation, and implementation skills. No more news releases about school offerings and "working with" Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Bell Canada, etc. A fricken phone call to the MHI/BC procurement office is probably worthy of a "working with" news release according to the Newmans.... News releases with actual sales or sales commitments from these big name firms is needed. Newmans, quit the hype and work for your 300K worth of bananas. Dr. Steve Newman, take off the rubber glove, your rectal exams on the shareholders and worthless news releases must cease before XYBR ceases.....
