They blew what? Why is it to their advantage to work with people who have demonstrated that they are inept. They will find them themselves. If they don't find them then I don't see how that changes things. If a cop believes you have a gun and are about to shoot him. If he tells you to take your hand out of your jacket and put your hands on your head and you refuse to all the while making threatening moves toward you, then that cop is justified in using deadly force, even if you don't have a gun.
