When I was in the military service, I talked to several crew chiefs that pointed out something interesting.

Crew Chiefs received $75 a month "Hazardous duty pay" (late 1970's)

Airborn guys received $53 a month "Hazardous duty pay"

What does that say about military pilots if they consider it more dangerous to land with the pilot than jump out and parachute down?

Ira

PS: Before I get flamed as anti-patriotic, it's just a joke. The crew chiefs flew daily. The airborn guys jumped twice a month, hence the lower "Hazardous duty pay".

LOL!!

Just covered the keyboard with cookie crumbs on that one. (g)

Like you, I can recall trips around the patch in aircraft that I wouldn't taxi across the ramp today. Ah, the courage of youth.

I suppose that is why I prefer to fly a homebuilt aircraft,..... I trust the guy responsible for its construction and maintenance more than anyone I can think of. (g)

Best, Earlie
