One of the nice things about the little bird that I fly is that its rate of climb exceeds its glide ratio. In other words, once though 1000 feet, a return to the takeoff airport is possible if the engine failed. Very few prop-driven aircraft can do this. Most of the time, I prefer to just keep the climb (2500 feet per minute) going until I have reached my cruise altitude, where the airplane then provides a very large "glide circle". Not that I am looking forward to trying this feature out. (g)
