I don't think you'll see the rule change. It would be innovative, courageous, and re-establish the Senate as the Founders intended it to be: A deliberative body above the emotional ebb and flow of the teaming, unwashed masses.

Such a move would force the public to consider the true dangers of casually electing a criminal like William the Bastard, and teach them that the judiciary can be a massive positive or a massive negative influence on the future of the republic-AND THAT IT'S UP TO THEM.

In other words-our contemporary Senate-never renewed or cleansed by term limits, and never held accountable by the people who pay taxes and lead the country-doesn't have THAT kind of guts.

Even though it's the WRONG side, it's actually nice to see a Senate that is willing to say NO to a president in this era of Justices fanticizing the right to murder children (Roe v Wade), a constitutional prohibition against confessions (Miranda), and an invisible clause against states setting federal term limits (a decision from the late 90's). The assumption of this power by the Senate may very-well prevent a future Clinton from leaving his criminal mark on the entire nation for 40 years.

But, because that is the implication-and because the cloture rule really COULD be changed (and probably will in 2005, when there are 55-57 Republican Senators rather than 51)-Look for Chuckie Schmuck, Traitor Leahy, and Lush Kennedy to ultimately cave on Estrada, to prevent a deal by other Dems who are, frankly, tired of all the bullshit.

The real fight, after all, will be over a USSC seat, and Bush is getting stronger every week...
