You have often tried to make the point that the people that are trying to get options expensed are just small time investors and academics.

Not exactly. My feeling is that people who are really trying to run tech companies and understand the application of how options are used don't feel that they should be expensed, and believe that their companies cannot survive without them. I believe most financial types don't understand options usage, I guess you'd call that group academics? Most R&D managers of a certain level understand that current salary structures actually have been underpaying R&D staff in terms of cash compensation for years now.

As far as the emotional "those guys ripped me off!!" whining, I think that comes from small time investors.
