From today's Boston Globe...

"After several weeks of probing, information gathering, and lobbying among its members, the Atlantic Coast Conference's plan for expansion is expected to evaporate in the next few weeks, which would keep the University of Miami in the Big East."

The ACC expansion passed today 7-2 with Duke and UNC being the no votes and with UVA recommending VT instead of BC. No formal offer to Miami has been made yet.

The Big East will counteroffer this weekend. If Miami doesn't accept an offer from the ACC before that time, and if each of the remaining schools offers financial concessions to Miami, and if a new TV contract for the Big East is worked out, there is a small chance that Miami will stay in a completely revamped Big East.

I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt that will happen. For the second time in 3 years, I am convinced that this is the end of bigtime football at VT. It was a nice run - I got to see a program get built from scratch into a national power, I got to see us play for the MNC, I got to watch Michael Vick do magic for two year, and more than anything else, people in distant places recognize the name Virginia Tech. My degree is more valuable today because of it.

But all good things...
