Takenaka: Need to mull stock supply/demand steps

5/8/2003 8:13:00 PM

TOKYO, May 9 (Reuters) - Japanese Economics and Financial Services Minister Heizo Takenaka said on Friday that it was important for the government to consider measures to stabilise the supply/demand balance in the stock market.

"There is not much institutional investor buying, but a lot of selling, and this is upsetting the supply/demand balance in the market," he told reporters after a cabinet meeting. "It is important to consider measures to restore the balance."

The government has put off a decision on what to do about Japan's depressed stock market until next week, saying on Thursday that a raft of proposals from economic advisers and politicians needs further debate.

<<How many depreciating dollars can Japan buy to keep the yen depressed and their export advantage intact?>>

Since I have a Yen loan outstanding and intend to keep it outstanding, Japan must do all it can do to keep the USD stronger than Yen.

Since I am net short the USD, and long CAD/AUD, Japan must not keep the USD stronger than CAD/AUD.
