OT-"Actually, all we do in that course seems to be sun salutations, head stands, and plough & shoulder stands."

That's a complaint I've often heard concerning the Sivananda routine, that it lacks variety. You should check in to one of their ashrams for a few days, two hours of yoga before breakfast and two more before supper, combined with a total of four hours of medition. I usually skip the meditation.

They have very nice Ashrams at Paradise Island (just down the beach from Atlantis, a huge and awful casino) in the bahamas and in Quebec, Canada. There you'll get more variety in routines, especially if one of the young swamis is the instructor.
