Or what if the best way to control Earth’s climate thermostat is not by taxing gasoline but by planting trees to soak up excess atmospheric carbon dioxide? (Where would we get the land to do this? Cut down those “old growth” forests in the Pacific Northwest, whose big trees are growing little, and plant the clear-cut land with fast-growing, carbon dioxide-craving seedlings!)

I see what you mean, as it is stated in this paragraph, I would disagree with that also, there are plenty of places to plant trees, and natural fires take care of more than enough destruction of old growth.

I agree with this post. I don't think most conservatives are interested in gunning down Old Growth Forests (OGFs).
Many conservatives I know do far more to protect the environment than the vast majority of "trees are people too" crackpots. But many conservatives are perhaps indifferent to environmental issues, relative to enviro-wackos. Others are perhaps recoiling from the oppression promised by the enviro-left in general.

But, I gotta be honest. I think the nuts do have something of a point. We ought to be careful about the environment, about water quality, about trees and general conservation. We just ought not oppress people by law. No dang owl or microorganism should cause a law that keeps a guy from reasonably using his own land! We can help foster greater respect for the environment and conservation by positive education and other voluntary means.

Don't know about north america but I remember reading that global warming would halt the gulf stream resulting in colder temperatures in parts of europe.
