Precisely what we have in mind - 'flood the island with loonies' .... maybe John Cleese should be elected to a higher post in church hierarchy than Jorge Castañeda -g- ..... it's true the US is leaving Cuba alone, for the most part, in recent years ... they did sort of get their knuckles rapped for financing various dissidents recently, though, quite a few of those associated with the Varela project were jailed for accepting foreign money .... there is a lot of nebulous grey in the ethics of this, because of so much legitimate connection between cubanos and US-resident ex-cubanos, family relations, etc ..... and i don't know much detail of it, read a few articles is all, some slanted to one side, some to the other

It's a lot more than canucks though ... you might be surprised, the contact between Cuba and many nations ... México of course, it's only a short boat ride from Quintana Roo .... Fidel trained to take down Batista near el DF, they say it is a tourist site now ... a few years ago his most famous mejicano associate from that time passed away, he got near a state funeral, a man very well remembered throughout both nations .... there was such support in México for Castro, against Batista and the threats from Eisenhower through Reagan, that it took longer than it should have for opinion to solidify against his own repression, violations of human rights .... but that's happening now, more and more - Castañeda making clear statements helped a lot, at first they were vehemently opposed by many, out of old historical reflex, but it opened a debate, people started thinking about it more objectively, more came to realise that it is completely absolutely un-mejicano to prohibit freedom of expression ... un-cubano as well, as Castro once pointed out in one of his endless speeches against the previous dictator
