there was an interview in Barron's today with a tech tout calling for Nasdaq 2000 in a "supernova rally". he didn't seem to list any compelling reason for the rise, other than momentum.

however on fundamentals he was less sanguine, stating that there's likely no "big new thing" that will cause a rise in tech spending in the next few years. he did a study of 18 different potential disruptive technologies and their tipping points. sees WLAN hot spots (a "hot" technology, which means it increases aggregate tech spending) tipping in 2008, which is a long way away. WLAN Enterprise tips in 2007, but is a "cold" technology (meaning it reduces overall tech spending).

In the <font color=Blue>creative<font color=Red> destruction<font color=Black> process, <font color=Red>destruction<font color=Black> often precedes <font color=Blue>creation. <font color=Black>Notice that as the wireless carriers denounce WiFi, they rush to embrace it...

It's either a hedge or a complement - let's hope they get their story straight SOON!

Cheers! Rob

PS With $40B of spectrum on VZ's books, I imagine it will go down kicking and screaming [wonder how those Beamreach OFDM trials are going?!]
