Robert, even in Japan, the deflation rate isn't significant [excluding share prices and property prices of course and sticking with Consumer Price Index] Take a look: stat.go.jp

I don't see any scary deflation monster. Japan is looking pretty swanky to me. Sure, the stock market is miserable and the rip-roaring property boom of the 1980s when Tokyo was worth more than the USA and the Emperor's Palace worth more than New Zealand has gone. But things are good there. Deflation is trivial.

They've got CDMA2000, super-duper cyberspace gadgets and business is booming along, minor glitches notwithstanding. Sure, the assets covering debt for some banks is dodgy, but there are plenty of buyers to take over the assets. Heck, I'll buy some myself if they want to offer a discount.

There certainly isn't a deflation monster roaming Ginza and Shinjuku. Akihabara is selling heaps.
