I watched "Reliable Sources" this morning on CNN. The subject was Blair, of course. The reaction was exactly the same as mine. The Times had done an excellent job of exploring the extent of the problem, but they had not discussed the cause, other than to blame Blair.

The consensus was that he was kept on because he was mentored by very high up people, and he had the ultimate "Rabbi", Raines. They felt that unless the Times got in front of this now, they were going to get a lot of backlash.

Based on Raines' performance on PBS, I think they will continue to coverup. This won't work for the Times anymore than it works for the White House.
