Then you are merely being a snob. Popular entertainment is an informal means of cultural transmission, reflecting and to some degree transmitting the values of either the mainstream of society, or some numerically significant portion of society. Obviously, a man is likelier to pattern himself on his father or some other male with a stronger connection to his life, like a grandfather or uncle, if there were someone to emulate. But equally obviously, some portion of what he assimilates about fathering a child or being a good husband comes from elsewhere, including from templates of good parenting presented in popular entertainment, like Ward Cleaver. It is not an especially conscious process.........
