Some time ago Maurice sounded very concerned - due to a cold. I remarked at the time that the odds for him having SARS were one to millions. Really, the key to dealing with such situations is a probabilistic epidemiological way of thinking. Tens of millions of people in the US had viral colds this past season, many of them had several colds, and there were only a few cases of SARS. No point so far in going overboard with precautions. That said, getting a hold of some surgical masks, which cost a couple of dimes a piece, may not be a bad idea. Keeping a bunch of 5 cent latex or vinyl gloves around the house may turn out useful - even if SARS never does become an immediate threat.
