re: Guilford Mills: GMIL (Otc/BB) @ $4.00

This is another interesting post-Chapter11 situation and I'm going to add it to the thread's portfolio. Given the ingredients I observed, it might turn out to be another IPSU type. Today's trading action certainly points to this.

Guilford mills was swiped away by the textile-blizzard that pulled many respected US & world class firms into Chapter 11 during the last 2 years among them - Fruit of the loom, FILA, Burlington etc.. However recently, value investors such as Warren Buffet have been buying assets and bonds of reorganized firms. "Uncle" Warren might have a shot at it again <g>

Guilford (GMIL.OB) however survived a painful restructuring out of Chapter 11. Yesterday they posted the second consecutive profit after emergence. The distribution of former bondhoders selling their newly issued common appears over. Today the stock rose more than 45% after yesteday's quarterly annoucnement - they made $0.14 this quarter alone.

Fundamtals look quite good : biz.yahoo.com

Price / Book under 0.40 and almost no goodwill (so it'S almsot the same for Price / NTA)
Price / Sales at 0.09
Shares out : 5.5m in new Common
Annual revenues : around $450m

Next target area : NTA (net tangible assets), around $10

So this is company with meaningful sales (like IPSU was and is). They pretty much closed down all their unprofitable operations and concentrate on their higher margin markets - automotive textiles (with 20% Gross margins) and industrial textiles (filtration materials). The first is stable and a nice cashcow, the second is growing 10-20% annually in the right environment. Firm seems to own a boatload of real estate on the books. If you look at cashflows, it's pretty significant - more than $8m per quarter are generated from D&A alone

Next management objectives :
Deleverage debt
Sell off surplus assets
Develop Industrial textile market (major opportunity)
Move to a meaningful exchange (AMEX or NASDAQ)

Anyway, thumbs up to management for their achievements so far..
