Britain's Awful Responsibility. On Saturday morning the Today programme had this amusing moment demonstrating the Beeb mindset. A female presenter was talking to Christopher Seaga, a British diplomat soon to return to Baghdad.

PRESENTER: "You must wonder how you are going to be received, given what Britain has been responsible for."

(Emphasis added.) With a phrasing like that, you'd think Britain had piled the skulls of her victims outside the city walls in the manner of Genghis Khan, not help to depose a tyrant at an astonishingly low cost of innocent lives. In fact Mr Seaga replied in a slightly bemused manner that he had visited Baghdad to inspect the embassy buildings a few days ago, and everyone was most friendly and welcoming.
