ST,

You are probably better off spending a few minutes on the Foveon site, than reading something I threw together from other sources.

"Foveon® X3™ technology delivers sharper images, better color detail and resistance to color artifacts."
foveon.com

From the third party stuff that I have read, I get the impression that the first foveon sensor is indeed very, very sharp, with better color detail, but there are some trade offs. Reading between the lines, I get the impression that they are a generation behind where they need to be to become established in the mass market.

I think when (if?) you see a Nikon, Cannon, Olympus, EK... announce a Foveon camera, you can be pretty sure that the trade offs have been minimized. Is it the solution for the future? It sounds good on paper but I think the jury is still out.
