I was in Wisconsin this weekend for a bar mitzvah. I spent some time catching up with my cousin, who lives in florida. When I asked why his wife and kids weren't there, he said they were cutting back on their spending. I was shocked. My cousin is a doctor. Right after he said they had cancelled a planned trip to Alaska this summer, he mentioned his wife (who gave up her job in pharmaceutical sales a few years ago) was looking for a job. This is from someone who is affluent. I can imagine others much less fortunate are making more drastic changes.
