The statement is correct as far as it goes. Rhinovirus is largely eliminated by the innate immune response. The adaptive immune responnse is often weak and is not always required to clear the infection.

It is known that reinfection is possible with the same serotype very soon after. It is also believed that repeated infections with a single serotype can build up immunity. Primarily IgA as I recall.

This may or may not hold true for all serotypes. Note that there are at least three distinct cellular receptors used for infection by different serotypes.
