You are defending France for basically doing nothing. They were merely taking care of their selfish interests. They have billions invested in Iraq and they were worried about getting that money back.

You claim that the US has not been successful the past 2 years. Wiping out Al Queda in Afghanistan and eliminating a tyranny which has killed and tortured as many as 2 million sounds pretty successful. Yes, there are "pockets of resistance" in the war on terrorism.

As far as Saudi Arabia goes, the problem is that they have been trying to play both sides of the street. The like the fact that the US has been there to provide "protection." On the other hand, the oilogarch sheiks keep their people enslaved. The outlet of allowing Muslim fanaticism to be taught and followed was a safety valve, but one which is now biting them on the posterior.

chinu,

Funny how you pretend to want rational discourse about events in the world when just a few posts ago you were espousing that the Palestinians duke it out with the Israelis.

Hey kids, can you say h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e?

"...where has US been successful in the world arena?"

How about Bosnia-Herzagovinia?

"HOw can you still keep saying that US can be a peacemaker"

I said before that if the Israelis and Palestinians want a different mediator it should be up to them, not you!! I explained previously that the U.S. has some leverage on both sides and can use it to help the two sides to come to an agreement. What don't you understand about this?

"just look at France and Germany. They worked with Iraq and ensured that they did not have any weapons of mass destruction"

Did they really? Several mobile WMD labs have been found. Have you considered the possibility that more will be found? I have. Why don't we all wait and see.

"I can hear you saying that the US has won the war against terrorism"

It is plausible to me that you do hear voices inside your head, but they are not mine. I never said that.

What I would say is that we are winning the war against terrorism, but there is a long road ahead of us. A very major part of this war is to find a peace agreement between the Palestinians and Israelis. There is no doubt in anybody's minds that much of the motivations of the terrorists are exacerbated by the fighting in the region. It needs to be brought to a halt. I do believe the Bush adminstration understands this perfectly well. They will do what they have to to bring peace to the region.
