Sirius Satellite Radio to Be Offered on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury Vehicles Tuesday May 13, 9:15 am ET Beginning in September, SIRIUS will be available on ten 2004 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. Ford Motor Company will expand its lineup offering SIRIUS to include Mazda, Land Rover, Volvo, Jaguar and Aston Martin. DEARBORN, Mich., and NEW YORK, May 13, 2003 - Available in September, Ford Motor Company and SIRIUS (Nasdaq: SIRI - News), the premier satellite radio broadcaster, will offer satellite radio as a dealer-installed option on ten different Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles in the 2004 model year: (Logo: newscom.com ) -- Ford: Thunderbird, Mustang, Explorer, Sport Trac and Expedition -- Lincoln: Navigator, Aviator, LS and Town Car (Town Car Available in Dec. 03) -- Mercury: Mountaineer Ford Motor Company also plans to expand its vehicle lineup offering SIRIUS, with details to be the subject of a future announcement. Satellite radio is technically referred to as Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service (SDARS). SDARS enables the delivery of a digital signal from an uplink facility on ground to orbiting satellites in space. The signal is then projected back to antennas and receivers across the continental US to a governmental-specified frequency. Simply stated, SDARS is a system allows a radio station to broadcast a signal from more than 22,000 miles away to your car radio for near CD-quality music with virtually no commercials as compared to traditional radio. By broadcasting with satellite technology, this allows listeners to hear programming from all over the US without having to change a channel while driving cross-country.
