I think that the American people were pretty clued in about Hillary when they elected Clinton ("Elect one, get two"). She was perceived as a political animal and treated accordingly. Not the "traditional" spouse, but fairly upfront about it (except for the cookie thing).

We also knew about Laura Bush. A more "traditional" spouse, with an agenda that does not evoke much controversy

Teresa Heinz Kerry is a neither a political animal nor a "traditional" spouse. She comes across as an elitist and a dilettante. The press is going to love her. If Kerry's people are smart, she will hard to find.
