OT ... Jim, perhaps you should start a "Bash the Analysts" thread, if one doesn't already exist. Unfortunately, I can't promise you any success with that.

I started one on employee stock options .. with only little success. That might be because most there are pro option expensing .. and others feel they'd be entering the lions' den. But, then again, a "bash the analysts" topic shouldn't have the same problem.

Jim, when analyst opinions go unchallenged, or are published without any other opinions that might take an opposite view, is when professional analysis degenerates into mere advertising. The moment analyst opinions are made available to the general public is precisely the moment when second opinions should be included, because that's the moment when the opinion can become nothing more than advertising.

In the case of QUALCOMM, the negative opinions, in my view, also are intended to help CDMA competitors. This has been the case for years, particularly after it became clear that QUALCOMM was generating enough capital internally to cover its future expansion. This means the investment firms don't get a piece of the action (no new stock issued, etc.), so why not help out the competitors who are struggling, and who just might want help raising capital.
