Mr. Sharon dismissed as not "on the horizon" any talk of changing Israel's settlement policy, and he dismissed suggestions that the Bush administration was pressing him to dismantle settlements.

Precisely my point. So long as the extremists have such power on both sides, the only power capable of moving things is the US. And the Bush folk are simply not going to do that.

Lots more folk will die. And have been dying because the Bush folk failed.
