When I watched the first interview of a person living in New York after 911, I notice they used the word "surreal" to describe their experience. I thought to my self that that was a descriptor that pretty well captured the feeling that most people were having at the time. A feeling of floating in the world that no longer has stable limits where any thing could change or happen, intense and irrational but a boding form of reality just the same. For a moment I was enamored by the term. Well my next thought was...wait-a-minute. The first time I heard the catchy phrase "fer-sure-man," and "far-out," and "bummer," and "duuude," and "sort'v"; I had a "right-on" feeling about those terms. Then when I heard them over and over and over again in every conversation and experiencial revelation for the next 10 frikken years, I wished I'd never heard them the first time. I got sick of people using the term "surreal" to describe their experiences by 912.

I reckon Springsteen has earned a smudgeon of credibility. I criticised Bush a couple-o-posts ago for being dorky...no reaction at all to that? Why do you suppose? Maybe its because there is no obvious political agenda to unseat Bush at any cost, underlying my every word. "The Dixie Chicks are selling out and receiving standing ovations from standing room only crowds." The Dixie Chicks...the Dixie Chicks...the Dixie Chicks...Ray? ...Uh? ... Well, you can have my seat. Enjoy the crowd.
