Re: USSR vs. USA - Yes, a nation that adopts an inherently dysfunctional economic system and tries to build its motivational system around paranoia will eventually fail. These were internal weaknesses, and were not created by any American policy. What you are saying is correct, and yet, to make such a statement would be analogous to saying that my wife's presence in my life didn't make me a better man. It did. You are right - it is vital that a society would be built on sound principles - but interrelationships with other countries do have a great influence as well. No man and no nation live in a vacuum.
