Eric L: 1x is 3G per the ITU.

That both Korea and China persist in calling it 2.5G is a function of local government policy where there is much on the line for 3G as new in new spectrum.

In China there is the fun that 3G is yet to be approved and story after story comes out as to whether CDMA 2000 or WCDMA will be chosen, yet CDMA 2000 is already in operation as 1x in current spectrum. Further, 1x EV DO is planned in current spectrum, yet as you say, is 3G.

What fun, no?

No wonder many people don't see this as crystal clear. And moreover, it really doesn't matter much in the real world what label is applied - especially since there is an ongoing debate as to what is or is not 3G.

What matters is what can 1x do, what can 1x EV DO do, what can WCDMA do - and/or what can EDGE do, or .....

Once again, thanks for all the careful research and achive retrieval which performed a major service re CDMA flavors.

Best.
