Boy I sure hate to interrupt your brilliant cut and paste, but here is more info on the Itanium glitch.

Mike has spun it one way, but if you spin it the opposite, you get, "turn down the volume a little for a month, and we will have you a new speaker" kind of thing.

I appreciate that this new chip must be perfect, but maybe we should look at Itanium as sort of a 10 year beta test. :)

Intel confirms no Itanium II notice for a month

By which time Madison will arrive

By Mike Magee: Wednesday 14 May 2003, 09:38

DON'T HOLD your breath and keep refreshing the Intel page to download details of the bug that's currently afflicting the firm's 64-bit microprocessor, the Itanium II (McKinley).
The bug can be circumvented by lowering the frequency of the processor from 1GHz or 900MHz to 800MHz. Megahertz are not important for enterprise level microprocessors, Intel has previously told us, so we suspect the lowering in clock speed is unimportant.

Because Intel has told the INQUIRER it will be at least a month before any notice of the erratumnotbug appears on its web site.

A representative explained that Intel has just told its OEMs – its manufacturing customers – about the problem.

The normal process is for a one month gap between telling its manufacturing customers and details of the bug being posted on the web site.

By which time, anyway, the Madison will be released. Although Intel didn't say that, we just know that's the case. Call us psychic or something. µ
