Arik. My holding periods started to extend

after I left the brokerage business, in the early 80s. But was still mostly working with holds of less than a month.

As time went on, family and life style drove the decision to extend holding periods further. Wanting to spend more time with my two sons - as they got older - was part of the equation.

So basically, by my late 40s, still wanted to make a lotta money. But didn't didn't want to spend as much time doing it, anymore. That required several years of gradually adjusting my tools, DD and tape reading technique to aclimate to the longer holding period.

The surprise was that, at least in my case, once I was fully adjusted to doing most of my trading in the Intermediate Term (one to 7 month holds) my yearly portfolio growth was quite a bit higher than when I was working entirely ST, back in the 70s and 80s.

Again, don't know if that's just me or would apply to a sizable slice of the other professional traders in the biz.
