I really don't see XM having any substantial advantages over SIRI in the long term.

15 years from now, there may be no substantial difference.

The main advantage XM has in a long-term scenario like that, frankly, is the name. They OWN the generic term for satellite radio today, and there is nothing SIRI can do to get a piece of it.

Hunts Catsup will never catch Heinz Ketchup. Ever.

The only thing that could dramatically change the picture is if Ford, Chrysler, or BMW jumped to XM.

Well, Toyota & Nissan are two big unresolved issues. Toyota appears to be leaning toward XM, but if they bailed and went to SIRI that could make a difference. Nissan is playing it right down the middle thus far, and if they choose up sides, it could matter.

They may have to do that, too. They are going to need to be doing factory installs within th next couple of years; and there isn't going to be any interoperability in that time frame. There is still a lot to watch here; while XM has a marked advantage today, there are things that can change that overnight...
