Dale,

I cannot believe how naive some people can be about term limits. People like Senator Byrd are on the last lines of defense against a complete HardRight takeover of our country and the total destruction of "democracy" in the U.S.

Surely you've noticed that Bush, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld and Friends are well on their way to creating a police state in the middle of North America.

Neutering the only elected officials we have is about as smart as pointing a .45 to the head and pulling the trigger, saying it's all for the best that we remove the impediments to a smooth running government, i.e. let's eliminate thinking.

If we wanted to really clean up government, we eliminate the possibility for scoundrels like George Bush kow towing to his Dad and Frank Carlucci at the Carlyle Group and fomenting fraudulent wars for the war profiteers.

These evil men are the ones who need to be taken off the government tit, not real democrats like Sen. Byrd.

I don't know what planet you live on, but it certainly does not include a country that wrote the U.S. Constitution.

Term limits for our elected officials, execpting the special case of the President, plays right into the hands of the scoundrels who've stolen our national government and turned it into their personal piggybank.

Shame on Carlucci. Shame of James Baker. Shame on Cap Weinberger and George Schultz who just swindled the American people and feathered their own bed at Bechtel. Shame of Oil Slick Dick and his sick schemes to feather his bed at Halli-burden-on-the-People!

Shame on you for suggesting that the watchdogs should be removed, so that the rats have an easier time raping the nation.

As long as the term limits are also extended to the bureaucratic troops.

That's where the real power lies. The problem with term limits, though I like the concept, is that what you do is get rid of people who have finally figured out where the bodies are buried and have some chance of controlling the bureaucracy, if they want to. Keep feeding new fodder into the maw, and the bureaucrats will run even more rampant than they now do.
