I noticed visiting Europe, even 25 tears ago, life was more regulated by government and the EU bureaucrats than in the US. EU has far more power nowadays.

It's far more deeply embedded in the culture in Europe vis à vis the USA than any mere handful of EU bureaucrats, and is in large part due to the fact that the Middle Ages did not happen here in the USA.

I'm sure if we were to take a voyage in time 100 years in the future in the US we'd be appalled at what will be taken for granted in terms of "government regulation" of civilian life. There are just so many roads that lead to loss of individual freedoms and so little time.... many carry names like "Perfect Health for All", "Totally Risk Free Environment", and other good intentions, without even factoring in the human nature to want to seize power, even if only over one millimeter of terrain at a time.
