<<Are there any reasons to be optimistic these days?>>

Shouldn't you have asked that question before buying?

I've been out since they first warned on earnings a few years back (having already ridden it down to 20 or so from a peak of 80).

As a growth investor, i can't see getting in before earnings start growing again.

On the other hand i was bullish at the top (earnings were still great) so i expect i may be bearish at the bottom.

I can't believe how well the market is doing compared to how bad the economic news continues to be. But i couldn't understand how bad the market was doing when the economic news and earnings were so good at the top.

So maybe this is the mirror image of the top, that is, the bottom.

I'm just not sure i'm supposed to buy stocks on a maybe.
