The violence we can stop cold, B89. The new system will be a Federal one, with three regions voting for their one third. That stops an overall Islamic state.


I wonder if something can be learned from how Algeria dealt with extremists. One significant problem in Algeria was that the authoritarian government in power was (and still is to some extent) corrupt, and much of the violence was thinly disguised mafia type activity, which thrives in such situations.

I don't think people should underestimate the simple criminal element in a lot of the violence in these cases, or think it'll be very easy to deal with. Nor should we underestimate the fact that the public will always choose the worst totalitarian government over social chaos.
