Sun Microsystems, Oracle Plan 'Significant Announcements'

NEW YORK -- Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW), Oracle Corp. (ORCL) and other undisclosed concerns plan to make an announcement Monday that the companies said will serve as a harbinger of more choice and innovation in low-cost computing.

Representatives from the California companies weren't immediately available to provide additional details early Friday.

Sun, Palo Alto, said in a brief statement Friday that the companies plan to make the announcement at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art at 2 p.m. EDT.

Shares of Sun traded recently at $4.07, up 3 cents, or 0.7%, on Nasdaq volume of 14 million shares. Average volume is 54.4 million shares a day.

Redwood Shores-based Oracle shares recently changed hands at $12.78, down 13 cents, or 1%, on Nasdaq volume of 8.9 million shares. Average daily volume is 40.6 million shares.
