ADIC Named Market Share Leader for Second Consecutive Year; Segment Including LTO and DLT Drive Technology Increases Lead to 58.3% of Tape Automation Systems Market

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 2003--Advanced Digital Information Corporation (Nasdaq:ADIC), leader in Intelligent Storage(TM) solutions for the open systems market, announced today that for the second consecutive year the company has been named as the market leader for the largest segment of the worldwide tape automation market, according to a new report by industry analyst group Gartner Dataquest.

This market segment, which includes tape automation systems using either LTO or DLT drive technology, also increased its lead over other tape storage systems and now claims a 58.3% overall market share, up from 54.7% in 2001.

The Gartner Dataquest Tape Automation Systems Market Shares, 2002 report lists ADIC as the number one market share leader in terms of both revenue and unit shipments for library systems using small-form-factor half-inch drives. This market segment includes all tape automation systems using the drive types most commonly used to protect data in open systems networks, and it accounts for 58% of the $2.1 billion overall tape automation systems market. The report shows ADIC led the small-form-factor half-inch segment in 2002 with a 24.1% revenue share and a 23.5% share of units shipped.

"These results validate ADIC's product, technology, and channel strategies," commented ADIC President, Chuck Stonecipher. "ADIC pioneered the development of intelligent storage networking libraries, and we continue to increase our lead in that arena, as the recent introduction of our innovative iPlatform(TM) architecture shows. Our focus on open systems solutions is also validated -- systems using the drives preferred for open system backup gained share once again, and ADIC remains the only top library supplier that does not manufacture tape drives. The numbers also suggest that our mix of system OEM and branded channel partners continues to be one of the most effective in the industry for delivering products and services to the worldwide IT community."
