I didn't need to read the article to know that. Rarely a swordfish is brought in over 50 pounds which is before they reach sexual maturity. It used to be they ran 500 to 1,000 pounds. The breeding stock is about gone.

The Japanese long liners are the most destructive of all the fishing fleets. I've read of lines 7 miles long being lost and becoming floating fish traps. Many times even though all the hooked fish are dead they only keep 10%. Shark fin fishing. Sheesh. Audubon did an article on that. 500 pound sharks caught, the fins removed and the fish are tossed back alive to die. Lots of wasted food there.

The Japanese also don't use TEDS on their shrimp boats. That's Turtle Excluding Devices. They kill a lot of endangered turtles just to get a few more shrimp.
