As long as redistricting remains a political process, it's hard to criticize one party for trying to do to the other party what the other party has just done to them.

If part of the point of your post is that the redistricting which occurs just after the completion of the census each decade is unduly politicized, we completely agree. Both Dems and Reps take advantage of that and democracy is the worse for it. But, if your point is that each party now seeks to redistrict whenever it gets sufficient power, even well into the decade, then I completely disagree. One indication is how few instances have been brought forward to compare with the Reps attempt this time. The only one, in fact, widely discussed, is another Rep attempt, this time in Colorado.
