I will not, however, be deciding "what we are and are not allowed to discuss". I won't go as far as "no political talk" or anything like that. I will be taking other steps, as necessary and possible, to increase the signal/noise ratio on the site. Stock talk is signal. Everything else, including the Car Nut Corner that I'm so fond of, is noise. "Noise" has to exist or it's really not a "community" at all. I only wish to nudge the ratio more to my and advertisers' likings. I won't be heavy-handed about it and none of it will be happening soon anyway. The earliest steps along those lines will be allowing free members to post only stock-related content and a limited number of posts per day. It'll be at least 3 months (I think) before even that can happen, but it's part of iHub's business model and will be applied here. Not only does it make sense from a business standpoint to ditch the "you can only post if you pay" model, and to quit selling new lifetime subscriptions because recurring revenues keep the computers humming, it also addresses the signal/noise issue by increasing signal without necessarily reducing noise. Like with iHub, SI will eventually gain new features that, along with some of the existing features (like search) will not be available to free members and will instead be part of a value-added subscription package. Again, none of that gets changed for a long time. There's little I can/will do or change on the site until it's been converted to the platform I'm good with. All of the technical issues of doing the migration are at the top of the priority list and little else will be possible until that's done.
