BS about Women not being able to play Augusta

Is that correct or is it that they just can not be members. I think Hootie had said that there was several hundred rounds played by women so it wasn't like they were excluded from the course just from being members. Not that it really matters I guess as it's a private club.

I would like to see Anika do well and she has picked the correct course for this attempt. Only a touch over 7000 yards and not made for the long drivers who will be using irons off the tee for position. She is avg 275 off the tee this years which is more then good enough for this course IMO. I say she makes the weekend. LMAO if she did well enough to be Vijay.

Edit: I see now that Vijay has withdrawn it upsets him so that he might get beat by a women.

Well, I'm basically on the fence over the qualifying issues. Also in fairness, there have been plenty of men allowed sponsor exemptions without qualifying either. From the sponsor's point of view (Bank of America), they guaranteed their money's worth for allowing the entry.

PGA has no rule that it's a men's only league.

Augusta does allow women to play the course, women are not allowed membership.

There's no debate that men have (generally) greater muscle mass, and as such the LPGA HAS to protect the league from men that can't compete on the PGA and would migrate to the LPGA. And if that were the case then the "LPGA" would end up as not much different than the "Nike" Tour (or National Tour) filled with male players so the women only clause has to exist. I wonder if Renee Richards can join the LPGA?

I concur with your title nine stance.

Don't start me on double standard issue, cause people would make you the "popular" guy of the thread and would flame me instead. <G>

Jim

Although I'm a big sports fan I have precious little interest in golf - barely even checked in on the whole Tiger phenomena or the recent Augusta mess - but this catches my interest. It's the classic root for the underdog scenario. All I've heard about Sörenstam is positive - she sounds like a class act who is willing to challenge herself to take a huge step up to a new level rather than to just stay in her comfort zone and win championship after championship against lesser competition.

It reminds me a bit of when Ichiro came from Japan to play for the Mariners. Everyone said he was great - for a Japanese player - but that the big boys would put him in his place. All he did in his first season was win rookie of the year and MVP. While there is no chance that Annika will be a superstar in PGA competition, I gotta root for her to surprise some folks and at least make the cut, and have a respectable finish.
