Based on what?

Based on George's speeches. Over and over again, the cry was we are not simply going to get rid of Saddam; we are going to make life better for the Iraqis. Bring democracy, etc. He talked about food supplies and water being brought in on the heels of the invasion. Sorry, didn't happen.

Look at Aghanistan if you wish. Rather than starting to build something, we are refusing to do so. No end of reports that Karzai has no ability to affect anything outside Kabul. It's all warlord stuff there. And, guess who has the strongest military in the country? The biggest warlord of them all, the former Northern Alliance commander. We refused to put in enough resources to spread some sort of national order beyond Kabul. And nothing can get done until that takes place. What more evidence do you want, John?

As for the fate of women, I gather the only place it might be better is in Kabul. Same ol, same ol, outside. Just more corruption.

Oh, no one I know is arguing that post war Iraq is a failure. That judgment will have to come down the road much further than the present moment. Right now all any critic that I read, at least reasonable ones, are saying is that the planning for the immediate aftermath of the invasion sucked. And it wasn't as if they weren't told and told and told.
