Pascal argued that believing in Christian religion(Catholicism) is like buying a lottery ticket. One pays a little price(conformity for some years to the religious doctrines) and one has a chance to win eternal(infinite) happiness. So the value of the lottery ticket is infinite and therefore one should be religious.
He died a pauper due to his gambling debts.
