I guess whether that message gets delivered depends on whether Bush gets reelected.

agreed, Iraqi pullout of OPEC is meaningless, no impact

my guess is Saudis are walking a real tightrope
they have few Arab friends now, except oil-rich emirates on gulf coast
the bigtime crazies are in Saudi though, next to sacred shrines

my guess is Saudis will take a page out of the USGovt playbook
the US leaders have been saying they want a strong dollar for a few years now, when it is killing the economy
but privately, the same leaders have urged those in control to engineer a calm decline

I suspect Saudis will next say they support the USTrezBonds
but privately, the royals will sell steadily a goodly portion of their holdings
even if it means they lose some money
they will make it back easily with a rising euro currency
and falling EuroZone interest rates
the euro might go from $1.16 here to $1.50
and their LT rates might go under 4.0% before the dust clears

the EU economy will be heading into recession probably faster than the USA's
