The other day i was brought a local paper from Reed Elley's riding, Nanaimo-Cowichan, there is an article on him, interviews with him and his wife .... quite a guy, he really is well respected in his riding, i knew this already ... a preacher, actual minister in a baptist church, but not in-your-face about it, tolerable - 'I'm not sitting in my office telling people they should be Christian. That's not what I'm there for. I'm a Christian that happens to be a politician. That's how I hope people look at it." ... had the guts to stand up and oppose his party's rah-rah on the recent neocon 'war' on Iraq, he'll get respect points for that

They have four kids of their own, adopted four others, and have fostered 148 others, presumably through a church charity organisation ... so he can look any NDPer in the eye on topics of social responsibility, no problem ... he's the forestry critic for Alliance, known pretty well now among the provincial minions here, says sensible things, never kneels to Washington ... worries some about western separatism, looking for ways to head it off ..... all in all, a credit to the House, he'll be in cabinet if/when Alliance gets it together
