In a few words, on the basis of purchasing power parity, the dollar was somewhat overvalued against the Euro. This was also true of The Economist's "Big Mac" index, which tries to establish parity by comparing what Big Macs cost in various countries. The Big Mac index showed the dollar overvalued against many, but not all foreign currencies.

However, despite what author Shostak claims, a lower valued dollar does make exports more competitive, and may also inhibit some import items where demand is elastic (we buy less if the price is too high).

Now, for more important business, I've heard about an offer to buy QUALCOMM. No more details available at present.
